Fatoni University is the first private Islamic higher education institution of Thailand founded by local Muslim scholars and academics in the areas of Islamic studies

who had fully intention in encouraging and developing Islamic education as well as other fields in order to reach the international standard quality and serve social needs with the expectation for working towards the peace solution and regional development.

The university was founded on the 3rd April 1992 under the name of Yala Islamic College located at Paramitae Village, Budi Sub-district, Meuang District, Yala Province. On the 10th March 2004, HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn accompanied with HRH Princess Srirasmi officially opened Yala Islamic College at Khaotoom Sub-district, Yarang District, Pattani Province. With regard to its potential and continuous development, it was accredited as Yala Islamic University in 2007.

Yala Islamic University was renamed Fatoni University on the 31st October 2013, which has been issued by Ministry of Education.
